Abu Ayyub Ansiri reported Allaah's Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) as saying: It is not permissible for a Muslim to have estranged relations with his brother beyond three nights, the one turning one way and the other turning the other way when they meet; the better of the two is one who is the first to give a greeting.

This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Zuhri with a slight variation of wording (and the words are):" The one turning away and the other turning away when they meet and one avoids the other and the other also avoids him."

'Abdullah b. 'Umar reported Allaah's Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) as saying: It is not permissible for a Muslim to have estranged relations with his brother beyond three days.

Abu Huraira reported Allaah's Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) as saying: There should be no estranged relations beyond three days.
