CHAPTER: EXCELLENCE OF THE RECITING OF THE QUR'AN BY ONE WHO IS MORE SKILLED AND PROFICIENT BEFORE ONE WHO IS INFERIOR TO HIM

Anas reported Allaah's Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) as saying to Ubayy b. Ka'b: Allaah has commanded me to recite the Qur'an to you. He said: Did Allaah mention me to you by name? He (the Prophet) said: Allaah made a mention of your name to me. (On hearing this) Ubayy b. Ka'b wept.

Anas reported Allaah's Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) as saying to Ubayy b. Ka'b: Aliah has commanded me to recite to you:" Those who disbelieve were not..." (al-Qur'an, xcviii. 1). He said: Did He mention me by name? He (the Prophet said): Yes. Upon this he shed tears (of gratitude).

Qatada said: I heard Anas saying that the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said to Ubayy the same thing.
